Fiber glass honeycomb panel is also know as fiberlgass honeycomb sandwich panel or Honeycomb fiberglass Board or Honeycomb fibreglass sheet. The material is a sandwich panel, consisted of two fiberglass sheets being glued to a honeycomb core. This product is light weighted but strong even though it looks thick. Fiberglass honeycomb panel / board / sheet can be made into different thickness, such as 10mm, 18mm 20mm etc. And the fibreglass (FRP, GRP) skin thickness generally is between 1mm to 2mm. ++ Classified basing on the fiberglass sheet production method:
Machine made fibreglass (FRP / GRP). The FRP skin is extruded through a continous extruding & casting process. It's the most commonly seen in the market. The fiber were chopped into short fiber at about 20 to 30mm, then evenly mixed with the resin. The surface is comparatively smooth, and it can be made with gel coat to achieve a more UV stable and nicer surface. Honeycomb panels made of this type is generally used to make dry van truck body.
Hand made fiberglass board. This type of FRP / GRP sheet is made from fiber cloth and mixed with resin. It's made piece by piece. The fiber cloth looks like a net, and this will provide a good impact resistance and a higher binding stregth if we need to screw on the fiberglass sheet. A fiber glass honeycomb sandwich panel made of this type, is more used as substrate materials of stone honeycomb panel. People glue a thin stone layer of 5mm to make a stone honeycomb panel.
++ Basing on the honeycomb core type:
Fiberglass sheet as skin and aluminium honeycomb core. It's cheaper, more light weighted with aluminum honeycomb core.
Fibreglass board as skin and PP honeycomb as core. It's slightly more expensive than aluminium honeycomb core, but shock resistant and chemical resistant is higher.
